摘　　要：《还乡》中对大自然环境的描写,具有极其丰富的象征意义。由于作者哈代借助了古代神话意象,因而使作品具有多层面的思想艺术价值。大自然的描写不仅为小说中的人物活动提供了背景,而且烘托了人物的心态和性格,暗示了人物的命运,反映了作者对大自然、对人生、对社会的深沉思考。The nature description of the novel The Return of the Native is rich in symbolism. Thomas Hardy employed mythological imagery in the novel, hence it has many different dimensions in the value of thought and art. It not only provides backgrounds for the activities of the characters, but also shows the states of mind and the temperaments of the characters, suggests their destiny, and reflects the author's deep thinking of the nature, life and society. 
