4h。OBJECTIVE To determine the storage life and applicability of unsealed syringes. METHODS A hundred and twenty syringes used in 12 clinical departments of this hospital were divided into two groups: one for dispensing antibiotic solutions and the other for non-antibiotic solutions.Samples from the unsealed syringes were collected, cultured and evaluated every one hour for identification of bacteria. RESULTS Negative bacterial cultures were obtained during the initial 4 and 5 hours in the groups of dispensing non-antibiotic and antibiotic solutions. The total eligibility rates were 82.67%and 96.43%, respectively for the groups of dispensing non-antibiotic and antibiotic solutions, 7 hours after unsealing. CONCLUSIONS Syringes should be used within 4 hours after unsealing.
