The application of the high-temperature superconductive cable to the metropolis mainly focuses upon the reconstruction of the underground cabling. The existing parallel pipes can be used to replace the existing conventional conductive cables, increasing the transmission capacity of the underground cable and transmitting a huge amount of electricity (above 1 GVA) into the load center of the city. With conventional power cable 500kV transmission voltage would be required to transmit the electricity energy of more than 1 GVA into the central part of the metropolis. Besides, extralong 500kV cable and related auxiliaries should be developed and manufactured for the first time for this purpose. The adoption of high temperature superconductive cable can reduce the level of transmission voltage. It is possible to transmit the electricity more than 1 GVA into the load center of the city with 220kV high-temperature superconductive cable. Moreover 110kV high temperature superconductive cable can also be used to transmit the electricity of approximately 1 GVA. According to the design and calculation of the AC high-temperature superconductive cable series the feasibility of adopting the 200kV or less than 220kV class high-temperature superconductive cables in the urban power transmission system to enter the central part of the downtown area and to replace the 500kV voltage class were suggested.
