摘　　要：The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the ruling party in China, published on October 21 in Beijing a landmark decision on a number of issues facing China抯 future. The 24-page, 12-part decision, approved at the Third Plenary Session of the 16th CPC Central Committee, held from October 11-14, identified challenges confronting China抯 sustained and balanced development, proposed next steps to address those imbalances, and laid down the path of development for the country for the next decade and beyond. The targets of further improving the market economy are to coordinate urban and rural development, development across different regions, economic and social development, development of man and nature, domestic development and the opening up to the outside world.
