《大英国志》与晚清国人对英国历史的认识

摘　　要：18 5 6年上海墨海书馆出版了慕维廉编译的《大英国志》 ,为近代中国文化人带来了大量的关于英国历史的知识信息。本文通过对《大英国志》译本的分析 ,译者蒋剑人在翻译中对英国历史的理解 ,以及《大英国志》在晚清的流传和影响 ,指出该书为晚清中国人正确认识有关英国历史 ,提供了最新的、最准确的第一手资料 ,使中国人第一次全面地了解了英国的政体演变、历史沿革和文化成就。该书在近代中外史学交流史上具有重要的文献价值。William Muirhead's Chronicle of Great Britain was published by the Mission Press of London Missionary Society in 1856, and it provides a lot of knowledge of English history for the Chinese in the late Qing Dynasty. Through an analysis of the translation by Jiang Jian-ren, his understanding of the English history and the spread and influence of this book, this thesis points out that the chronicle provided very new and correct first-hand information for Chinese readers in the late Qing Dynasty, so that the Chinese got to know, for the first time, the changes of the political system, historical evolution and cultural achievements in Britain. This book is of great documentary value in the history of Sino-foreign exchange of historic studies.
