Objective Bone mass content of motion organs i s associated with external force This study involved the effect of gravity and, m uscular strength on bone mass Methods 111 subjects (56 males , 55 females) with exclusion of secondary osteoporosis and bone diseases were ran d omly recraited during physical examination Their general bone mass were measur e d by DEXA and general and local BMD and BMD, lean body mass, and gripping streng th were recorded Results General body weight and lean body m a ss were closely correlated with BMD, but weakly with BMD The correlaion coeffi c ients in females were higher than those in males BMC, lean body mass and grip s trength in males were 3 5%, 27 8% and 44% higher than these in females respect iv ely This may be the important reason that bone mechanical property of males is better than that of females With every 1 kg body weight in males over that in females, the BMC in male was 0 020 kg over that in females With every 1 kg le an body mass in males over that in females, the BMC in males was 0 008 kg over t h at in females So we inferred that weight might be the important external force to determine BMC Conclusions Both weight and muscular strengt h are important factors for determining bone mineral content Application of bon e mechanical measurment to diagnosis of osteoporosis should be further studied
