摘　　要：莫高窟第 96窟 (北大像 )前第 2层遗址非西夏遗址 ,为公元 96 6年曹元忠夫妇主持重修北大像前殿堂楼阁的“二期工程”所留 ,唐。The second layer of the archaeological stratum remains on the site of the nine storied wooden structure in front of Cave 98 (also known as the Northern Great Image) are not belong to the Western Xia Dynasty , it was the remains of the Song renovation project for the front building of the Northern Great Image which were presided over by Cao Yuan zhong and his wife in 966 A D The four sculptures of the Heavenly Kings should be there two each on the flank of the northern great image of Buddha inside the building on the west gate which were built original as the Buddha's image dating from the Tang Dynasty and The Song Dynasty
