The Shangsi festival is a traditional Chinese festival. This paper tries to outline the festival pomp from the ancient literary works. In the Spring and Autumn period people went to the riverside in order to get rid of evil and dirt, and from the Book of Songs we know young people also went out and played together on that day. Some works by LUJi and WangXizhi reveal that on that day people often drink and versed in the Wei Jin Dynasty. And in this period the festival became a royal festival. In the Northern and Southern Dynasties people liked the games of riding horses and toxophily, and these customs continued to the Tang Dynasty.
