The study was conducted to examine the effects of 6 dietscontaining 2 protein levels and 3 lysine levels on growing-finishing performance, digestionand N-me tabolism in growing period of Duroc pigs. The results suggestedthat the average daily gain .efficiency of feed utilization and lean percentage were not significantly affected by protein levels. When the pigs were fed by 17% protein diets with the live—weight of 27—60 kg, the growth rate and feed efficiency tended to be imprved as lysine level increased. When the pigs were fed by 15% protein diets, the growth rate reached maximum as 0.95% lysine was used. The lysine level had no siginificanteffect on the performance of the pigs with over 60 kg live—weight. For the pigs of 27—90 kg live—weight, the best rate of gain and lean percentageswas got from the diet containing 15-13% protein, 0.95-0.82% lysine with a lysine: protein ratio of 6.3. The digestibilities of ground protein and ground fat of the pigs fed with high protein diets were higher than thosefed with low protein diets (P<0.05). N—rentention was not siginificantlyaffected by protein and lysine levels, but N-rentention efficiency of the pigs was affected by protein levels (P < 0.01).
