The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has lasted for more than two years, and it is still the top concern of the world. The severe acute respiratory distress syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes respiratory distress in the lower respiratory tract and sometimes death, and most people speculate that boosting the immune system is a preventive measure against COVID- 19. Vitamin D deficiency is considered to be a global problem. Studies have shown that vitamin D defi-ciency affects many aspects of inflammation and immune regulation, and may be one of the risk factors for COVID-19. Given its involvement in various pathophysiological mechanisms that occur during COVID-19 infection, vitamin D may be a promising agent against SARS-CoV-2. This review aims to summarize the research progress on the correlation between vitamin D and COVID-19.
