The chronic and persistent low-grade inflammation caused by obesity is an important risk factor for the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. However, some obese individuals show better metabolic characteristics, and this subtype of obesity is described as “metabolically healthy obesity” (MHO). Studies have shown that chronic inflammation of adipose tissue may be a key factor in determining whether obese people have a normal metabolism. The bi-ological mechanism of MHO is still unclear, but it may be related to its favorable adipokine secretion pattern. Therefore, this article reviews the relationship between MHO and inflammatory factors.
