评价理论视角下中国国家形象的话语建构——基于中美媒体北京冬奥会报道的对比分析  

Discourse Construction of China’s Positive Image Based on Appraisal Theory—A Contrastive Study of the Reports on Beijing Winter Olympics from Chinese and American Newspaper

摘  要:本文以评价理论为视角,借助UAM Corpus Tool标注软件分析中美媒体关于2022北京冬奥会的新闻报道中的态度资源分布,对新闻语篇进行批评性话语分析,以探讨其对于中国形象的话语建构。研究发现,中美新闻报道的态度资源分布存在一定差异。在新闻报道语篇中,China Daily新闻报道语篇中态度资源的总频次要高于New York Times,其中鉴赏资源差异最为明显。China Daily正面态度资源的使用要远多于New York Times。China Daily在新闻报道中展现出更为积极的评价,肯定了中国积极响应国际奥组委号召举办北京冬奥会的积极表现,体现出中国合作开放、勇于担当、追求卓越的大国形象;而New York Times新闻报道中运用大量负面资源,对中国的能力和国内政治环境等方面提出种种质疑,对中国及北京冬奥会总体上持消极态度。This paper adopted the perspective of appraisal theory to analyze the attitudes resources distributed by the Chinese and American mainstream media on the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics with the help of UAM Corpus Tool, so as to explore its discourse construction of China’s image. The research founded that there were the differences in the distribution of attitude resources in China Daily and the New York Times. With respect to the frequency of usage, China Daily tended to employed more resources than those of the New York Times, and the difference in appreciation resources was the most obvious. Besides, China Daily employed more positive attitude resources than did the New York Times. China Daily provided a more positive evaluation in the news report, affirming the active response to the call of ICOG to host the Beijing Winter Olympics, showing China’s image of openness, cooperation responsibility and pursuit of excellence. On the contrary, numerous negative comments occurred in the New York Times, revealing American media’s negative attitude towards China and the Beijing Winter Olympics by raising various doubts about China’s capabilities and domestic political environment.
