摘 要:《边城》是中国著名文学家沈从文的杰出作品,以其独树一帜的文学语言,生动地刻画了20世纪30年代川湘边境小镇的风土人情。这部小说不仅为读者呈现了一幅具有浓厚乡土风情的人文画卷,引人入胜,而且使读者充分体会到当时地方的风貌,了解到湘西文化一隅。而文中丰富的四字格词语,例如自由词组、成语等负有文化负载的词语如何在译文文本中体现,也是值得引起关注的点。本文基于归化异化视角下,就杨宪益和戴乃迭(杨译本)、Jeffrey C. Kinkley(金译本)的英译文对文中四字格词语进行比较分析,为翻译学习者提供更多翻译策略与启示。Border Town is an outstanding work by Shen Congwen, which, with its unique literary language, vividly portrays the local customs and human sentiments of a small town at the Sichuan-Hunan border in the 1930s. This novel not only presents readers with a rich tapestry of rural life that is captivating but also allows them to fully experience the local style of the time and gain insight into a part of Western Hunan culture. The representation of the rich four-character phrases in the text, such as free phrases, idioms and other culturally loaded words, is also a point that deserves attention. This paper, from the perspective of domestication and foreignization, conducts a comparative analysis of the translation of four-character phrases in the English versions by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang (Yang’s translation) and Jeffrey C. Kinkley (Kinkley’s translation), providing more translation strategies and inspirations for translation learners.
