Healthy heart function is crucial to the health and even survival of animals. Although the current research mainly focuses on vertebrates, there is still a cognitive gap about the toxic effects of bivalve mollusks on the heart. In order to explore the effects of Cd2+ and Hg2+ on the cardiac tissue structure of Scapharca subcrenata, the control group and the experimental group were constructed by setting different concentrations, time and single or combined exposure of metals. The experimental period was 48 hours. The effects of Cd2+ and Hg2+ on the cardiac structure of Scapharca subcrenata were observed in detail by histological method. The results showed that Cd2+ and Hg2+ could cause myocardial injury in Scapharca subcrenata, including myocardial fiber breakage, cell edema or necrosis, and pathological phenomena such as fiber arrangement disorder and fibrosis. With the increase of heavy metal concentration, the pathological degree was serious. In addition, the toxic effects of the two metals on the physiology of Scapharca subcrenata showed an antagonistic relationship. This study provides an important basis for understanding the toxic mechanism of heavy metals on Scapharca subcrenata.
