译印俱佳,踵事增华——不该被圣经汉译史遗忘的台约尔

摘　　要：台约尔出身英国传教世家,博学多才,为中文印刷和圣经汉译事业勤谨奉献多年。他有成熟系统的圣经汉译观,有修订《马太福音》汉译本的翻译实践活动,本该有更大的作为,可惜天不假年,最终成为一个被圣经汉译史遗忘的人物。本文拟通过伦敦会档案、《中国丛报》、《加尔各答基督教观察者》等原始资料,厘清台约尔的中文著述与圣经修订活动、台约尔与“四人小组译本”的纠葛、台约尔与“委办译本”的关系,以及台约尔的圣经汉译观。希冀抛砖引玉,稍减“先锋者已被忘却”的遗憾。Samuel Dyer was a versatile and talented figure in a prominent missionary family.He devoted himself to the grand cause of Chinese printing and Chinese Bible translation.He developed a mature system of translation discourses which was applied to his own revision of the Book of Matthew.He should have contributed more to missionary history but for his untimely death.In the end,such a brilliant figure fell into oblivion,which was quite a pity.This thesis intends to reproduce Samuel Dyer’s Chinese learning and Bible translation activities,his interference with the Medhurst-Gutzlaff version,his initiation of the Delegates’version,as well as his viewpoints on Chinese Bible translation via London Missionary Society archives,Chinese Repository and Calcutta Christian Observer.The author hopes to restore the pioneer to his deserved position.
