Presbyopia refers to a refractive condition where the aging eyes lose the ability to accommodate properly for near vision, resulting in a diminished capacity to meet daily near visual demands.Beyond its direct impact on visual acuity and overall life quality, presbyopia also gives rise to safety concerns. This phenomenon has garnered considerable attention within the field of eye health, prompting ongoing research to develop effective correction methods that have proven successful in clinical practice. These advancements have significantly enhanced visual quality and the overall aesthetic experience for individuals grappling with presbyopia.Studies have found that presbyopia symptoms typically onset between the ages of 45 and 50.Due to the increased intensity of near-distance reading associated with highly modernized societies, many individuals experience presbyopia around the age of 40.Meanwhile,people's social expectations for themselves gradually shift towards youthfulness and vitality, making them sensitive and inclined to avoid age-related functional issues. However, the Chinese term for presbyopia,"lao shi",carries associations with"old age"and is laden with negative connotations such as"uselessness"and"burden".This psychological burden, coupled with its potential impact on clinical treatment, merits careful consideration. In light of this, there is contemplation regarding the adoption of more appropriate clinical terminology that aligns with the scientific essence of presbyopia while mitigating the avoidance sensitivity towards the term"old"in early-stage presbyopes. This article aims to explore and deliberate on the potential renaming of"presbyopia"and warmly invites valuable opinions from all perspectives.
