摘　　要：理查德·霍加特是英国文化研究的主要创始人之一。他的《识字的用途》一书通常被认为是两次世界大战之间英国北部工人阶级社区生活的民族志研究;并且这本书超越了传统意义上的学科界限,具有文学批评和社会学的一些特征。霍加特的跨学科的研究方法深深地影响了后一代的学者并且对文化研究的发展起到了示范性的作用。Richard Hoggart is one of the main founders of British Cultural Studies,whose masterpiece The Uses of Literacy is considered as the fruits of ethnographic study in the Leeds community between the two world wars.Moreover,this book works across the traditional disciplinary boundary,because it is characterized with some traits of literary criticism and sociology.Hoggart's establishment of the interdisciplinary approach has an in-depth impact on the development of cultural studies and the latter scholars.
