Methods Low-grade students were taught in a joint lecture by teachers of preventive medicine, microbiology and epidemiology according to the request of each subject. The differences of AIDS knowledge and attitudes were compared before and after the lecture, and the differences between low-grade students and the senior. The students were investigated on their evaluations of the lecture. Results After the lecture, the knowledge rate of AIDS and the rate of right attitude increase patently. These rates among the students attending the lecture are better than those among the seniors. 75.8% students think that the joint lecture can help them know a disease in an all-round way. 70.3% students believe that it helps them spread their professional perspective. 63.7% students think that the effect of the joint lecture is better than that of the traditional teaching method in increasing the concept of preventive medicine among clinical students. 51.6% think that they gain a lot from the lecture. Conclusion AIDS joint lecture has better effect on health education and professional thinking education. Still it needs improving on time arrangement.
