The letter left by the deceased monk was the basis for the management of legacy . The executive man of the letter was a member of the family and relative of the deceased monk. If the monk without offspring dead , his real es- tat. was arraged bv feudal officials. Judgine from this, we can see that the relations between secular socity and the legacy of the deceased monk were rather close. But there was discrep- ancy between the relations and Buddhist discipline. It was beacuse that the condituons of the ordinary monks were more depicted in Dunhuang manuscripts. The undertakers and stan- dards of funeral arragements and the people who attendetl a funeral varied with the defferent deceased monks' social levels.
