Probe on English Popular Ballad: Origin, Performance and Classification

摘　　要：The term "ballad" is translated into "民谣" or "民谣" in China, but this translation may cause misunderstandings, because "民谣" and "民谣" contains ameaning thatthispoemor song is beinglyrical. In thetimeofElizabeth Ⅰ(1558-1603),love songs,satirical songs, religious songs were all grouped into "ballads", till the later half of the 18th century, William Shenstone (1714-1763) proposed that the lyrical songs should be coined as songs, and the narrative songs should be coined as ballads.
