摘　　要：英国著名作家托马斯 .哈代的不朽佳作之一《德伯家的苔丝》 ,描述了一个纯洁、美丽、高尚、善良而勤劳的农村姑娘苔丝在不幸失贞之后 ,被冷酷的社会、腐朽的道德逼得走投无路 ,终于愤然杀死造成自己不幸的富人亚历克 .德伯维尔 ,而自己被处死刑的故事。在书中 ,我们看到苔丝一次又一次地反抗命运 ,一次又一次地遭到挫折 ,蒙受深重苦难 ,直到最后毁灭。在强烈震撼痛惜之余 ,我们又深深感到其悲剧的必然不可避免。本篇将试从社会环境、宗教道德、家庭及个人性格等方面 ,探讨导致主人公悲剧的必然因素及其悲剧意义。Thomas Hardy is one of the most famous novelists in England. Tess of the d'Urbervilles is one of his immortal masterpieces .It's about the tragic fate of a country girl Tess who is pure、 beautiful、 proud 、kind and diligent. After suffering the initial consequences of the innocent seduction or rape, she is reduced to precariously vulnerable position by social prejudices and the prevalent moral standards. At last she kills Alec d'Urberville, a rich man who causes her tragedy ,but she is sentenced to death .In this novel, we can see Tess resist her unjust fate again and again, suffer setbacks again and again, till to be destroyed. We can not help but feel the intense emotions of pity and fear. At the same time we deeply feel that her tragedy is inevitable .In this essay ,I'll try to probe the inevitable factors and significance of her tragedy from the aspects of social environment、religion、moral standards、family、nature and so on.
