摘　　要：从翻译的基本原则出发,分析了红色在汉语中的比喻用法。红色在汉语中的比喻用法涉及到它的第二含义和引申义。其引申义与文化背景密切相关。它不仅具有积极的一面,也具有消极的一面。当把红色的比喻用法翻译成英文时,理解并掌握红色在汉语中的文化背景是非常重要的,它将对中外文化交流及翻译实践研究有一定的实际意义。TThe figurative uses of red in Chinese are analyzed on the basis of the basic principles of translation. Its uses in Chinese involve the secondary meaning and the connotative meaning of the color. The connotations are closely related to the cultural background, which bears both positive and negative aspects. When the figurative use of red translated from Chinese into English, it is important to understand the cultural background of the color in Chinese. It is of practical significance to the translation practice and the cultural communication between China and English-speaking countries.
