摘　　要：本文探讨了三个问题。第一个问题实际上是如何评价传教士的办报活动 ,笔者将 1 9世纪初来华的传教士同明末清初的传教士作了一个对比 ,提出了“先期中国化”的概念。第二个问题则相对具体些 ,笔者重新描述了一下国人从译报到办报的演变过程 ,同时也注意到外报的变异现象。第三个问题是比较了 1 9世纪前后两批报人之间的异同 ,认为前期报人以个人兴趣为主 ,后期报人以组织兴趣为主 ,但他们又处于一种递进关系之中。在本文的展开中 ,笔者试图把握近代中国报业早期发展中的“近代化”与“中国化”这一辩证关系。The author tries to explore the relationship between modernization and nativization of modern Chinese journalism development and also discusses some questions in this precession. First, he makes a comparison between foreign missionaries came to China in 17th century and in early 19th century, especially how they adjusted their newspapers to Chinese tradition. Secondly, he describes how the Chinese newspapermen converted from translating foreign newspapers to running their own newspapers, as well as the variations of foreign newspapers in this period. Thirdly, the author advances a viewpoint that in 19th century there existed a phenomenon in Chinese newspapermen transforming their interests from individuals to social groups or even political parties.
