摘　　要：美国浪漫主义时期伟大的作家霍桑 ,在他的代表作《红字》中运用了大量的象征手法。不同的作者对这些象征有不同的解读。其实红字“A”的真正象征意义是女主人公的丰富情感和她心中的爱人。Nathaniel Howthorne was one of the greatest writers of American literature of romanticism.In his masterpiece,The Scarlet Letter,he used many writing techniques of symbolism.Different readers had different understanding of these symbols.In fact, the symbolic meaning of the scarlet letter “A” is the heroine's full affection and her lover.
