摘　　要：全面建设小康社会是党的十六大确定的奋斗目标,这一奋斗目标为远程教育的发展提供了广阔的空间和思路,也赋予了它新的历史使命。远程教育在建设小康社会中的新使命是:构建与小康社会建设相适应的现代远程教育新模式;建立与小康社会发展相适应的终身教育新体系;优化配置教育资源,加强远程教育的现代化建设;加强教育科研,探索适应建设小康社会的远程教育新理论。Building a Well-off society is the goal set up at the Party's Sixteenth National Congress, which provides wide space for and also endues a new mission to the development of distance education. The new mission is building a new model which is suitable with the Well-off society, and constructing a new life-long education system, optimizing education resources, strengthening education research and exploring new distance education theory.
