AbstractThe mechanism underlying the formation of PSM is one of the important problems of researches onmeridians in human body. This Paper, based on the meridian theory of traditional Chinese medicine and theclinical facts of acupuncture and moxibustion, makes an inference that collagen molecule can be a carrier ofenergy transported during the advance of PSM in human body.By using the method of quantum biology, amodel of soliton excitation in collagen molecules is constructed. In the model,it can be found out that thesymmetric and asymmetric waves of soliton move along the three chains of collagen molecule at a velocitylying between 0 and 15.5 metre per second. The transmission of the solitary wave and its effect on the nervereceptors are made to correspond to PSM,and thereby it has been given to explain to the mechanism ofPSM ,the difference of dominant PSM from latent PSM,the blockability of PSM,and the other phenomenaof PSM. This explanation is in accord with the known clinical facts of PSM,the results of the expeiments onPSM,as well as the result obtained from our experiment of immunohistochemistry for the pupoose of differ- entiating the types of collagen molecules in the capsula of corpuscula lamellosa in human dermis.
