Objective: To investigate the effect of LFPMF on learning , memory, EEG and brain tissue morphology in rats. Methods :Thirty-six adult male Sprague Dawley(SD) rats were grouped into control and irradation randomly (n=18). Rats in irradation group were exposed to 0.1 mT intensity LFPMF of 15 Hz for 45 minutes per day for 30 days. The influence of LFPMF on the neurons were detected by using Morris maze test, and the morphology and the electroencephalogram (EEG) were observed by fluorescence microscope, microscopy and EEG instrument. Results: Rats in irradation group took more time to acquire the taskin the maze, especial in the first day (P〈0.05); the amplitude and the frequency of the EEG were significantly lower in irradation group than control (P〈0.05), which showed negative effect of the exposure to the LFPMF; abnormal changes of neurons were observed under the light and the electronic microscope in irradation group. Conclusion:The negative effect should be taken into account when irradiating with LFPMF is adopted.
