It has always been accepted that Weixuanjiang and her adopted son were accused of their incest and licentious affairs in the two songs Hoping to Live with Her Lord Till Death and The Quail Sings in The Book of Songs. This essay intends to prove that such argument is not justifiable according to the marriage institution of the East Zhou Dynasty and the West Zhou Dynasty.Based on the analysis of sense of the songs, this essay also explores the initial motifs and the ideological meaning of the songs.
