It provides the basis for sound reservoir management. Petroleum development geology has been gradually maturing and becoming another major branch of petroleum geology, paralleling with petroleum exploration geology. The study of petroleum development geology has its own specific tasks and goals. Although the techniques and approaches are renewed continuously, there still exist some basic principles that have to be followed in view of methodology ; to master these principles is the essential prerequisite for doing development geology work efficiently. This paper discusses the methodology of petroleum development geology in various aspects.
