摘　　要：詹妮弗·约翰斯顿擅长以爱尔兰的政治与文化张力为背景来描写英爱尔兰人的生存困境。在其第七部小说《火车站男人》中,她一如既往地表达了强烈的民族关注和深刻的政治洞见。小说以含蓄的手法演绎了一则隐喻故事,其中女主人公、火车站和男主人公分别代表爱尔兰、北爱尔兰和英国,并通过讲述南北爱尔兰“日常生活”中的悲剧,叙说历史如何以微妙的方式影响甚至入侵个体生活的现象,冷静地审视了“北爱尔兰问题”给人们、尤其是英爱尔兰人造成的生存困境,委婉地批判了极端民族主义分子的自由观,旨在告诫人们:惟有通过彼此沟通与相互理解才能医治历史给爱尔兰留下的创伤。Jennifer Johnston is a famous Irish novelist whose works deal with political and cultural tensions in Ireland, with an emphasis on the problems of the Anglo-Irish. The Railway Station Man, Johnston＇s seventh novel, embodies her insight into the novel＇s three metaphors ： Helen, the station and Roger, which are compared respectively to the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and Britain. This article aims to explore the implications of the three metaphors, trying to interpret Johnston＇ s diagnostic reading of contemoorarv Irish mattars.
