摘　　要：《卡斯特桥市长》是英国作家哈代的一部重要小说,它以亨察德一生的悲剧为主线,淋漓尽致地演绎了自然主义的文学理念。作家对遗传和环境两者决定论的过分强调给作品涂上了很强的自然主义色彩,充分证明了自然主义这一文学思潮对哈代的深刻影响。As an influential literary trend in the second half of the 19th century, naturalism exerts a great impact upon many European countries. The Mayor of Casterbridge is one of the most important novels by Hardy. The author＇s special emphasis on the determinism of inheritance and environment makes the novel a fine species of naturalistic writing. Its naturalist tradition can find best illustration in the creation of the tragic figure of Henchard.
