As a promising new wireless technology,, Bluetooth enables portable devices to form short-range wireless ad hoc networks based on a frequency hopping physical layer, but asymmetry, of nodes is a serious problem in applying Bluetooth technology into ad hoc networks. Based on the study on the present networks formation protocols, we describe an idea of cycle-switching cluster-head to overcome the asymmetry, of Bluetooth ad hoc networks. In this paper, we utilize switch - role protocol in the specification of the Bluetooth system to switch cluster-head in time-sharing and form a multi-hop peer-to-peer Bluetooth ad hoc network. We propose to control node-degree and introduce one - hop bridge to reduce the number of data transmission. We define rules for device discovery, piconet formation, piconet interconnection and peer-to-peer networks formation in detail. By using these rules, we connect the protocol forms with multi-hop peer-to-peer networks without requiring the Bluetooth devices to be all in each other transmission range. The simulation results in networks with 200 nodes show that this protocol can not only quickly generate connected networks but also efficiently reduce the number of data transmission.
