摘　　要：德国作家歌德提出了“性格决定命运”的论断,成为被普遍认可的名言。然而决定命运,还有比性格更重要的因素,就是智慧。领袖人物的智慧影响整个社会,普通人的智慧影响人的一生。智慧既有先天的秉赋,又有后天的习得。智慧还需用德行来驾驭,才能成为有利于民族生存和发展的大智慧。German writer Goethe＇s ＂Character determines fate＂ has been universally accepted as a famous saying. However, another factor more important than one＇ s character in determining a fate is wisdom. A leading figure＇ s wisdom influences a whole society while a common individual＇ s wisdom a whole life. Wisdom is either inborn or acquired. Only coupled with virtues can it become a big wisdom that benefits a nation＇s subsistence and advance.
