The microbial community structure and its distribution characteristics of the substrate section in the integrated vertical-flow constructed wetland were studied through phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) analysis. The composition of wetland PLFAs was mainly the saturated fatty acid, branched fatty acid and monounsaturated fatty acid; the contents of polyunsaturated fatty acid and cyclopropane fatty acid were relatively small in amount. The ratios of characteristic fatty acid submitted vertical distribution pattern. The aerobic prokaryotes in substrates were predominant groups, next were the gram-positive bacteria and other anaerobic bacteria; and micro eukaryotes occupied the lowest proportion. The statistical results showed that the relative contents of aerobic prokaryotes was highest in the surface layer of the up-flow chamber, while the characteristic PLFAs relative contents of gram-positive bacteria, sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB) and other anaerobic bacteria were highest in the middle layer of the down-flow chamber, suggesting that this area was the main facultative anaerobic function area in the wetland system.
