Tang's Fictions represented by Tang's Legends have exerted a considerable influence on Japanese prose of all ages. Kawabata had been engaged in the translation of Tang's Fictions into modern Japanese. The inspiration and stimulation from Tang's Fictions, along with the bitter seeking for his own mother and the fervent longing for perfect women aroused by his own life experience, help to form his creative mode of "two combining into one, and one dividing into two", which almost spread all over the early, middle and late phases of his creation; thus the mode incarnates an inner harmony between artistic thought and literary style.
