摘　　要：杨仁敬现为厦门大学教授、博士生导师,厦门大学外国语言文学研究所所长。主要成果有:专著《20世纪美国文学史》、《海明威传》、《海明威在中国》和《美国后现代派小说论》(合著)等;译著包括《比利.巴斯格特》、《紫色》、《杜宾的生活》、《部族人》、《基辅怨》和《蝗虫日》等以及有关论文150多篇。2006年7月,本刊特约记者甘文平通过电话和信函跟正在美国访问的杨教授交流。杨老师系统地介绍和评论了出生于20世纪50和60年代、崛起于80年代末和90年代的“X一代”作家群及其代表作。他们主要包括威廉.沃尔曼等在内的七位中青年后现代派作家。这些作家在主题思想和艺术手法上继承了他们前辈后现代派作家如品钦、加迪斯、德里罗、多克托罗和纳博科夫等的优点,同时又有自己的创新,体现了鲜明的时代特色。杨教授认为,后现代派文学是美国文学的重要组成部分。“X一代”作家群的崛起以及被学界和读者的普遍接受表明美国后现代派文学仍在继续发展,因此这群作家很值得我们去关注和研究。这将是一个很有意义的新课题。Yang Renjing is at present professor at Xiainen University and director of Foreign Languages ＆ Literatures Institute of this University. His major publications include such monographs as A History of the 20th-Century American Literature, Ernest Hemingway ： A Biography of a Selfmade Giant, Hemingway in China and American Postmodernist Fiction （co-author）. He is also translator of works like E.L. Doctorow＇ s Billy Bcahgate, Alice Walker＇ s The Color Purple, Bernard Malamud＇ s Dubin＇ s Lives, Nathaniel West＇ s The Day of the Eocust. He has published more than 150 academic papers. In July 2006, Prof. Gan Wenping, guest correspondent of Foreign Literature Studies, had an interview, by phone, letter and email, with Professor Yang, who was then visiting Harvard University. He made a systematical and critical introduction to a group of newly risen writers called the ＂Generation X,＂ who were born in the 1950s and 1960s, and have gained academic recognition nationwide in the 1980s and 1990s. The ＂Generation X＂ writers include William Vollmann, Richard Powers, David Forster Wallace, Douglas Coupland, Cathryn Kramer, Neal Stephenson and Michael Cunningham. They inherit the achievements of such senior writers as Pynchon, Gaddis, DeLillo, Doctorow and Nabokov in thematic representations and writ-ing techniques. Moreover, their works present their originality and are marked by their time. Professor Yang thinks that postmodemist literature is an important part of American literature. The fact that the ＂Generation X＂ writers are well received by American critics and readers indicates that postmodemist literature is still developing well. Therefore, those writers and their works are quite worthy of notice and concern.
