摘  要:Cotton is the major source of natural fi bers worldwide, and this commodity contributes signifi cantly to many national economies, both in developing and developed countries.Cotton is the major source of natural fibers worldwide, and this commodity contributes significantly to many national economies, both in developing and developed countries. Among the different cotton species, "Upland" cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), due to its high productivity and other agronomical advantages, accounts for more than 90% of the production worldwide, while G. barbadense ("Extra Long Staple", or Egyptian, or Pima cotton) is renowned for its high fiber quality.
