Investigation was made on extant stock and growth of Lateolabrax japonicus cultured in floating cages in Ailun Bay from April to December of 2004, and model analyses were carried out simultaneously. The results indicated that from July to September was the key season for studying the carrying capacity of fish farming water in Ailun Bay. The feeding behaviour of cultured Lateolabrax japonicus became most active in summer, with the feeding rate being 1.4 %~4.4% and the largest values being found in August. Normally, uncaptured feed waste percentage varies from 11.0 % to 28.0 %, while the largest values appeared from July to August. About 38.6 t DO were consumed by cultured Lateolabraxjaponicus in one culture period, the fastigium of oxygen consumption being from July to September. In addition, the cultured fish played an important role in nutrient circulation in the cage culture areas. About 0.08t ammonia or 1. 0 ~ 1. 6 t nitrogen were exported into Ailun Bay by the cultured Lateolabrax japonicus . In the floating cage culture areas with 2.0 ;〈 105 me , the nitrogen excreted by cultured Lateolabraxjaponicus could meet 17.2 %~27.5% demands for phytoplankton production. From April to December, 12. It faecal waste from fish culture were released into marine environment.
