Objective To elucidate the expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) and the microvascular density (MVD)in primary transitional cell carcinoma of bladder , and to determine their magnitude of angioenesis. Methods Specimens form 42 patients with primary transitionalcel cell carcinoma of bladder were assayed using immunohistochenmical technique to examine the expression of factor Ⅷ related : antigen , basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor( VEGF), as well as the microvascular density (MVD). Results He positive expression rate of VEGF and bFGF was 59.5% and 40.5% , and the ( P 〈 0.05 ) and the recurrence rate of the high MVD group is higher than that of the low MVD( P 〈 0. 05 ). The MVD of the recurrence group is higher than that of the non - recurrence group ( P 〈 0.05 ), and the recurrence rate of the high MVD group is higher than that of the low MVD group is higher than that of the low MVD group ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion MVD is related with the recurrence of primary transitional cell carcinoma of bladder, and the abnormal expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) is the major element in increasing forming capability of the microvascular.
