一词多义现象的转喻解析

摘　　要：一词多义是指一个词项有两个或两个以上的义项。传统的语义学理论未能对一词多义这一语言普遍现象的本质作出充分的解释。认知语言学认为一词多义现象是人类通过认知手段,使得词由其中心意义或基本意义向其他意义延伸的结果。探究一词多义现象形成的原因可以借助认知语言学的转喻理论。Polysemy is the linguistic phenomenon of two or more related meanings with a single linguistic form. Traditional semantic theories fail to account for this pervasive linguistic phenomenon clearly. Cognitive linguistic theories argue that the emergence of polysemy is the result of meaning extension fi＇om the primary meaning of a word to other more or less related meanings via cognitive devices, like metonymy. In this paper, the author probes into polysemy from a cognitive perspective of metonymy.
