摘 要:《无数碎片》是美国近年的畅销书之一,是一部记录作者詹姆斯.弗瑞23岁时经历的回忆录,主要讲述了他在美国中西部地区康复中心从一个酒鬼、瘾君子和罪犯向常人转变的过程。然而书中内容却被揭露有"为了艺术而艺术"的虚构性描写,由此引起了轩然大波,甚至创造了一个后弗瑞时代。在这个时代,回忆录作家必须让广大读者了解事实的真相和细节,更多读者和批评家对回忆录写作进行了深入思考,即使是普通人,通过回忆录工作室的指导和帮助,也开始热衷于创作自己的回忆录。本文着重探讨后弗瑞时代回忆录在出版业、写作和工作室三方面的新景象。 One of the bestsellers in the United States in recent years,A Million Little Pieces(2003) is a partially-fabricated memoir by James Frey telling the story of how a 23-year-old alcoholic,drug abuser and criminal becomes a normal person in a mid-western American rehabilitation clinic.However,the reported embellishments of some central details of the book are denounced as containing "art for art's sake" fabrications.This has aroused such a heated debate on and criticism of the book and the author that it heralds a post-Frey era,in which memoir writers are expected to offer completely factual details.Among other outcomes of the book,more readers and critics are starting to think about the writing of memoirs,and even ordinary people are becoming enthusiastic about writing their memoirs with the expertise of such agencies as memoir studios.This paper highlights the new features of memoirs in the post-Frey era,concerning their writing and publication,and the professional studios working for them.
