摘　　要：美国著名作家爱伦.坡的短篇小说和创作理论为现代主义思潮中的主要流派提供了创作摹本和理论指导。坡在短篇小说创作中超前地使用了现代主义小说家惯用的表现手法,塑造了现代社会特有的孤独和异化的人物形象,其主题也暗含了现代主义小说才常见的荒原主题。从坡的短篇小说与现代主义小说在叙事技巧、美学思想和创作主题的对比中,我们可以看出,坡是超前的现代主义者。The short stories and literary theories of the famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe have provided the writers in the mainstream of the modernist movement with literary＇ inspiration and a theoretical basis. In writing short stories, Poe, by creating isolated and alienated characters common in the modern world and displaying literary, expressions that were often used by the later modernist writers, predicted the theme of waste land in modernist fictions. In light of the comparison between the narrative techniques, aesthetic thoughts and themes of his short stories with those of modernist fictions, we can conclude that Poe is a forerunner of modernism.
