Objective To investigate the roles of the B-lymphocytes of peripheral blood in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients and people with different antibody titer, Methods Flow cytometry was used to detect CD19^+ and CD19^+/CD21^+ expressions on B- lymphocytes of peripheral blood of 94 people infected by Epstein Barr virus (including 54 nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients) and normal controls. Results The expressions of CD19^+ and CD19^+/CD21^+ on B-lymphocytes of peripheral blood in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients were decreased significantly, while in non nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients infected by Epstein Barr virus, the expression of CD19^+ and CD19^+/CD21^+ increased correspondingly as the antibody titer increased. Conclusion In nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, the expressions of CD19^+ and CD19^+/CD21^+ on B-lymphocytes of peripheral blood decreased significantly and the activated B-lymphocytes decreased. In non nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients infected by Epstein Barr virus, the expressions of CD19^+ and CD19^+/CD21^+ increased slightly and the activated B-lymphocytes increased gently. These observations indicate that there may be some relation between B-lymphocytes and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
