Anne Waldman (1945-), poet, professor, performer, curator, and cultural activist, is the author of over 40 books and small press editions of poetry and poetics, including Fast Speaking Woman, IOVIS ( Book Ⅰ& Ⅱ), Vow to Poetry: Essays, Interviews and Manifestos, Marriage: A Sentence, In the Room of Never Grieve, and Structure of the World Compared to a Bubble. She is also the editor and co-editor of numerous anthologies, including The Beat Book, and co-editor of Disembodied Poetics : Annals of the Jack Kerouac School, The Angel Hair Anthology, and Civil Disobediences : Poetics and Politics in Action. In critics' eyes, she has been an active member of many different "schools" of poetic writing-The Beats, the Black Mountain, the New York School. But she has developed her unique, and experimental style of performing her own writing. She is currently a professor at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, a program she co-founded with Allen Ginsberg in 1974, and is the Chair of its Summer Writing Program. She makes her home in New York City and in Boulder, but travels frequently to poetry zones through-out the world. In the interview, she elaborates on issues in poetry reading, covering the features of poetry reading, the clarification of some terms in poetry performing, the disclosure of poets' emotion and passion in reading and the responsibilities of being a poet. Furthermore, she details the development of her poetics, her poetic lineage with others and the relationship between poetry and the world.
