Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of CD105 and VEGF in astrocytoma, and supply evidence of clinical treatment. Methods Immunochemical method was used to determine the expression of CD105 and VEGF protein in 56 cases of low-grade astrocytomas and paratumor tissue, and 56 cases of high-grade astrocytomas and paratumor tissue, and 10 cases of normal brain tissues were used as control group. Results Compared to the control group and paratumor tissue, the CD105-MVD and VEGF immunopositive cells were increased significantly in the astrocytomas( P 〈 0. 01 ). The expression of CD105-MVD and VEGF were increased significantly in the high-grade astrocytomas versus to the low-grade astrocytomas. There were statistically significant about CD105-MVD among the significantly expressed group, the lower expressed group and negative group of VEGF (P 〈 0. 05). Conclusions The CD105 and VEGF protein are over-expressed in human astrocytomas to a centain extent, and the positive rate of expression gradually improves with the histological grade becoming more serious, which may be combined utilized to discriminate the malignant degree of astrocytoma. The new therapeutic regimen of astrocytoma based on these will be applied.
