摘 要:本文从认知角度出发,采用词汇化和图形—背景理论与个案分析的方法,借助相关语料,聚焦考察现代英语动词kill的语义结构及常规汉译模式,旨在探索一条可行的词语翻译教学途径。研究发现,kill有七种常规汉译模式:kill模式、"kill+工具"模式、"kill+方式"模式、"kill+路径"模式、"kill+原因"模式、"kill-致使"模式和混合模式,这些模式是通过改变kill事件结构中原有"图形"及"背景"框架来获得的,源语和目的语中动词的不同词汇化模式与对事件框架的不同"图形"、"背景"处理在很大程度上决定词语的翻译模式。From the cognitive perspective, the paper attempts to make a ease study of the semantic structure of kill and its prototypieal Chinese translation patterns by resorting to Figure-Ground and lexiealization and corpus data to find a practical way for teaching and learning verb translation between English and Chinese. It finds that kill has seven Chinese translation patterns ('kill' pattern, 'kill+instrument'pattern, 'kill+manner' pattern, 'kill+path'pattern, 'kill+cause' pattern, 'kill-causing'pattern and hybrid pattern), which result from changing the original event and figure-ground structure. Finally, the paper comes to the conclusion that the translation patterns are determined to a large extent by the different verbal lexicalization patterns and treatment of figure and ground of the event structures the verbs describe in the source and target languages.
