Objective To investigate the expression of EMA and EGP - 2 in breast carcinoma tissues, to analyze their relationship with clinical indexes and to observe the correlation with their expression. Methods Immunohistochemical technique was applied to detect the expression levels of EMA and EGP - 2 in tissues of 69 patients with breast carcinoma and 28 patients with breast hyperplasia. Results Expression levels of EMA and EGP - 2 in breast cancer tissues were much higher than those in hyperplasia tissues, and their positive rates were 88.41% and 91.30% respectively. However, they were 21.43% and 25.00% respectively in hyperplasia tissues. Their difference was statistically significant. The strong positive expression rates of two indexes had close relationship with tumor stages, they were much higher in groups of T Ⅲ + Ⅳ than those of T Ⅰ+ Ⅱ. In breast carcinoma tissues, the expression of EMA was positively related to EGP - 2 ( r = 0. 374, P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion The results suggest that the high expression of EMA and EGP - 2 in breast cancer may be important in diagnosis of breast carcinoma. It is helpful to detect these two indexes in prognostic evaluation and treatment of breast carcinoma.
