Objective To analyze the relationship between high frequency ultrasound diagnosis and pathological manifestation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in rats. Methods A total of 64 SD rats were randomly divided into normal control (24)and experimental groups (40). The experimental groups were fed with highfat diet. Ultrasound and pathological evaluation were detected in 8, 12, 16 and 22 weeks, respectively. Results Fat degeneration commenced after 8 weeks of high-fat diet. The liver was enlarged the edge of which became dull. The echoes in the liver were enhanced, and the vessels became indistinct. Those phenomena were more marked after 12 weeks. In pathological images, The simple fatty livers were observed in the model group at 8 week. From 12 weeks to 22 weeks, the liver gradually progressed from nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) to liver fibrosis. There were significant differences of both ultrasound and pathological features between the control and experimental group (P〈 0.05).Conclusions High frequency ultrasound manifestations is consistant with pathological changes in NAFLD rats, which may serve as a reliable non-invasive technique for diagnosing fatty liver disease in clinical.
