摘　　要：高等教育在社会发展中发挥着越来越重要的作用,为此,一些学者作出了高等教育从社会边缘走向社会中心的理论推断。如何理解和把握这种推断,其本质内涵及表现特征如何,这些问题需要深入探讨并加以厘清,唯有此,在推动高等教育走向社会中心的过程中,人们的行为才会更加明确,才能让高等教育为社会全面发展发挥更大的作用。Higher education plays an import.ant role in the development of society, which makes the scholars conclude that higher education has moved from the margin of society to its centre. We should settle out the following issues, i. e. how to understand and master of this conclusion and what＇s the basic conno- tation and the characteristics of it. Only by clarifying these can we make the people＇s behavior more clearly in the process of promoting higher education to be society - oriented and make higher education play a greater role in the all - round development of society. This paper is a systematic explanation of higher education on the aspect of the basic connotation and characteristics of society - oriented higher education.
