摘　　要：我们的祖先通过对纤维材料的加工、编织和缝缀技术的探索,制作出垫于身下驱除地寒的"席",这便是最早成形的坐卧家具。几经历史演变,纤维材料至今仍然广泛应用于家具。就纤维材料加工而言,虽然他们生长的地方不同,品相各异,但编织原理相同,且与纺织技术同根同源。先人们对编织的纹样在材料、色彩、花纹、形制使用都作了礼仪上的规定,这便形成了一种文化,一种昭示历史进步的家具文化。The embryonic form of Chinese ancient sitting furniture and beds, mat, was a result of our ncestors＇exploration on the processing and knitting skills of fiber materials, which are still commonly used in furniture making. As to the processing of various fiber materials from different areas, their knitting methods are similar to textile technique. Ancient Chinese assigned particular material, color, decoration and form to different pattern of knitting, which finally developed into a part of Chinese furniture culture.
